See It! Let The Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in)

Ok, this is not your typical vampire movie and that’s putting it mildly. This goes through the spectrum of an uncomfortable plot of a cross dressing little boy to almost pedophilia. We also get the coming of age, feel good moments in this movie. But, somehow this seems to work. While it does have some disturbing moments you still get some interesting vampire-lore as well. Also, your typical horror elements are shown.

This movie comes from Sweden and it takes place in the early 80s in a suburb called Blackeberg. We get the story of Oskar a 12-year-old-boy who is being bullied at school. Tortured is a better word. He befriends a mysterious girl, Eli, who moves in next door with an older man, Håkan. In the course of the movie, we see things are not exactly what they seem. AT ALL. Eli turns out to be a vampire and maybe a boy, I couldn’t decide, but the two children develop a close relationship and Eli helps Oskar fight back against his tormentors.

I posted the trailer for this awhile back, but here it is again to refresh your brain. See it! The great remake kings of Hollywood have already tapped this one to be of course remade! Tragic.

Looks amazing. I love snow horror, just love it. Vampires oh yes. I bet the book is good too. Have you finished the True blood books yet? I am still on the first one barely started.

I just got them the other day. I’m on about page 40 of the first one. I’m trying to get on the ball so we can discuss the differences.
