BRAINS, BRAINS – Starz Gets their Zombie On
The zombies are aiming to take back the bite from vampires. Forget about Tickle Me Elmo Robert Pattinson and his Twilight gang, Woody Harrelson and the brother of the Pepsi girl have breathed new life into the walking dead with the success of Zombieland. Ok, I’ll stop the punning.
On October 13th at 10:00 p.m., the Starz Network will bring us Starz Inside: Zombiemania . Starz Inside: Zombiemania is a fun look at the Zombie craze around the world. Featuring clips from a vast library of Zombie films and Zombie experts, including the “grandfather of Zombie films” George A. Romero and best-selling author Max Brooks. More ‘Zombieland’ – Sequel in Works and Possible TV Series
Paul Wernick told MTV the following:
“We would love it, and everyone involved creatively wants to do another one,” Paul Wernick, one of the screenwriters, told MTV News before the film’s release. “Woody came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said, ‘I’ve never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I’ve done until this one.’ ”
In addition to Harrelson, Wernick and co-screenwriter Rhett Reese said the returning core crew would include Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and first-time director Ruben Fleischer. If and when another film gets the green light, the writers have more than enough material with which to work.
“It has lived in our heads for four-and-a-half years,” Wernick said. “We developed it and wrote it as a spec TV pilot in the summer of 2005. We’ve got a long brainstorming document that still to this day gets updated on a near-weekly basis with ideas. We’ve got tons of new ideas swimming in our head.”
They haven’t started work on a script, though, and weren’t too keen to divulge any potential “Zombieland” sequel plot points. “It all obviously depends on what happens on Friday at the box office,” Reese cautioned.
And yes, the movie could turn up on tv screens as well.
“We would love to do several sequels,” Wernick said. “We would love to also see it on television. It would make a wonderful TV series.”
You Want ‘Paranormal Activity, You Got it
I guess the you demand commercials worked, because they have decided to take it to more screens. The little movie that could will now be opened 100 screens and I say yaaa! I like these little movies that try to be different, how about you guys?
This weekend was a big test for the mainstream appeal of ultra-low-budget horror movie “Paranormal Activity” as Paramount expanded it beyond midnight shows to play at all hours of the day in 160 theaters. Word-of-mouth and a marketing campaign that focused on Internet buzz paid off handsomely — “Paranormal” averaged a phenomenal $44,162 at each theater. That puts it in a virtual tie with with “Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds,” a concert film that played only on pricier 3-D screens, for the highest per-theater average of all time for a movie playing at more than 100 locations.
