American Horror Story: Cult “11/9” (Recap) – The Horror of a Backstory

Welcome back Emma Roberts. I’m beginning to think Emma really is an uber bitch in real life, because she plays these characters seamlessly. If you are Emma in fact an uber bitch, DM girl we can be such good friends.
This contains big time spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode, I am advising you turn back now. Save yourself.**

This week’s episode of American Horror Story: Cult is a giant flashback to election night and the events before and after. You know the time when our National nightmare began. With this episode we are treated to watching Kai (Evan Peters) smooth talk and charm his way into every one of his cult followers’ small minded little hearts. Hmmm, sort sounds like the snake oil salesman that’s currently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. We learn that Kai met Man Neighbor while he was working as a trainer at his gym. Man neighbor and Woman neighbor loss their previous house because they can’t pay their mortgage. Kai manages to cult charm MN by preying on his insecurity about having a shitty job and life and convinces him to kill his boss.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: CULT — Pictured: Adina Porter as Beverly Hope. CR: Frank Ockenfels/FX

Beverly Hop (Adina Porter) is a good reporter who should be sitting at the anchors desk, but she is relegated to doing field reporting. Her obstacle is (Serena Belinda) Emma Roberts, who is again doing what she does best – bitch. She is literally sleeping or sucking her way to the top. For some reason they picked Dermot Mulroney as the older boss. I mean Dermot is still pretty hot, but OK he needs to work too. The feminist in me would not let me make the Roger Ailes joke that clearly would have gone well here. It’s not at the women’s expense but at his, don’t worry. Kai meets with Beverly and cults her. He recognizes how black females have to twice as good to get half of what their white counterparts gets. No lies were told in that respect. However, Beverly sees the crazy in Kai. He tells Bev she needs Serena removed from her path. No, Bev doesn’t kill Serena. However, members of Kai’s insane clown posse do. My money was already on Man, Woman and Kai is clown face. After Serena’s demise Beverly gets fitted for her mask.

Now if you are like me and you kept wondering why Winter seems to be able to keep her job in-spite of everything. You know like being really really bad at it. Turns out Winter met Ivy at an Election Day rally. At this rally Gary K. Longstreet (Chaz Bono) attacks Ivy while they were in line to vote. Winter comes to Ivy’s aid and Gary K. flees the scene. Ivy and Winter follow Gary K. to his store and taze him and handcuff him so he cannot go vote for Trump. Of course Kai shows up and offers Gary K. a handsaw to cut his hand off. He actually cuts his hand out to vote for Trump. Somehow I’m not shocked at a Trump supporter doing this. Gary K. and Kai make it the polls and cast their votes. Sadly, we see Ally voting for goddam Jill Stein. The idea of that shit pisses me off.

This episode does a great job of showing how all these people are connected and how we got to where we are in the previous episodes. We get to watch Kai unleash his charming, manipulative, well thought out, researched, disturbing enrapture messages to his little cult. Again, reminds me of that orange tinged idiot sitting in the oval.
See you next week.
