Hulu’s Into the Dark Episode 8 ‘Delivered’ – HF Review

Director: Emma Tammi
Writer: Dirk Blackman
Stars: Natalie Paul, Tina Majorino, Michael Cassidy

Hulu’s Into the Dark returns just in time for Mother’s Day and in keeping with the earlier episodes of the second season – shit gets dark. The episode called Delivered is serving straight ripped from the headline’s goodness.

First off, I want to say a hearty thank you to Lifetime movies. Seriously, because I watched a 90s Lifetime movie or two in my day and add that to the fact that over the years, I have become too cynical for my own good. In other words, I am sufficiently suspicious of everyone involved at first meeting, even the pregnant ladies. Ladies, beware.

A pregnant woman whose life is upended when she realizes someone close to her has darker plans for her and the baby.

The episode stars Natalie Paul (“The Sinner”), Tina Majorino (“Napoleon Dynamite,” Corina, Corina”) Michael Cassidy (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice “) and Micah Parker (“Wait “).

In the beginning of the episode, Paul’s character appears to be having a difficult pregnancy and she appears overly anxious. We soon learn her anxiety is not due to the impending birth, but she has other secrets she is keeping. In fact, she is having nightmares in which her fetus tries to rip its way into the world on its own. You find yourself relieved for her when she meets Majorino. She deserves major hat tips for doing her best impression of Misery’s Annie Wilkes sans pig and Liberace records that is. The character is extremely nice, extremely nurturing and extremely insane. The actors in Delivered all do a good job with these characters. And, like all these mini movies they are not long enough delve too deeply into the backstories. Even though they attempt to here, but I did not find myself rooting for anyone. I guess pull for the pregnant lady. 😀

Is it a perfect episode? Of course not, there is an unnecessary plot with an ex-boyfriend. And, because I am nosy, I also wondered if the husband had any idea about him. The ex-boyfriend’s story-arc is a bit anti-climactic and pointless, especially since his introduction is treated with so much prominence. For a basically four-character story, believe it not, there is a decent body count. Especially, if you count the off-camera deaths discussed in the film. As, stated I also enjoyed we get a decent backstory to explain why Annie Jr. is insane, but I would also love to know more. Again, nosy.
