A funeral director tells four strange tales of horror with an African American focus to three drug dealers he traps in his place of business.
Tales from the Hood is a 1995 horror comedy drama anthology film directed by Rusty Cundieff and executive-produced by Spike Lee. It was written by Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott.
It stars Clarence Williams III, Corbin Bernsen, Joe Torry, David Alan Grier, Anthony Griffith, Wings Hauser, Lamont Bentley and Paula Jai Parker.
I am really excited to rewatch Tales from the Hood; I recently watched a very underrated Tales from the Hood 3 and it made my best of 2020 list. Tales from the Hood receives much love from me because I happen to love an anthology film, and this film did such a great job tying all three tales together.
Clarence Williams III does a stellar job of being the eccentric sinister funeral director, and David Alan Grier who primarily known as a comedian at this point takes a turn for the utter worse. He is an awful person in this film. So good. Last year’s hit Mortuary Tales is a direct descendant from Tales from the Hood, who does not get the proper respect it deserves.
