A few hours ago Lionsgate released the trailer for the upcoming reboot of the Saw franchise Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Spiral stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson, and is produced by the original Saw team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger.
Honestly, I’m still not that moved by this trailer. I am not really a fan of Chris Rock and his shout acting, I find him annoying in most things. Bruh, find a different way to emote. But, I am a fan of Samuel L. Jackson so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the film. Outside of that the trailer still offers nothing other than making sure we realize this is tied to Jigsaw. Ok, I guess.
Am I curious – yes. Will I be watching – also yes. But, the trailer is still as lackluster as the teaser, basically nothing in it indicates this is going to be anything but a few hours of Chris Rock acting sweating, yelling on and off and SLJ just being his cool self. Obviously, more thriller than horror, but I’m getting The Snowman teas. And we remember how that went, right?
Spiral: From the Book of Saw opens May 14, 2021
