This fairy tale begins in a library in Queens. The Apple Studios and Annapurna produced series is based on the acclaimed bestselling book of the same name by Victor LaValle, “The Changeling” is a fairytale for grown-ups.
A horror story, a parenthood fable and a perilous odyssey through a New York City you didn’t know existed.
Starring and executive produced by Academy Award nominee LaKeith Stanfield (“Atlanta,” “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Sorry to Bother You,” “The Book of Clarence”), the series also stars Clark Backo, Adina Porter, Samuel T. Herring, Alexis Louder, Jared Abrahamson and special guest star Malcolm Barrett.
“The Changeling” is written and adapted by showrunner and executive producer Kelly Marcel (“Cruella,” “Venom,” “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”). The pilot episode was directed by Melina Matsoukas (“Queen & Slim,” “Insecure”).
This trailer looks hauntingly beautiful and macabre and gives all the things, but it’s also giving me Servant vibes for some reason. I broke up with Servant in the second season because it became convoluted and just not that interesting to me, but it went on two more seasons so apparently, I didn’t get it and there was a story to be told. So, this could be completely different and amazing, which is my hope. I am a fan of LaKeith Stanfield, he is an interesting talented actor. Also, I’ve read some of Victor LaValle’s work, The Ballad of Black Tom and We Travel the Spaceways, two books that I really enjoyed. Both, have different perspective on race and the supernatural, so I expect nothing less from this version of “The Changeling.” In other words, I can’t wait to see this series and the turns it will take.
The Changeling premieres September 8 on Apple TV+
