Well, word on the street has been the trailer for the upcoming The Crow remake was going to drop soon, turns out soon is today. This version of the film stars: Bill Skarsgård, FKA twigs and Danny Huston. Tuck in here we go.
In this iteration: Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.
I have so many feelings. The original The Crow is near and very dear to us Xennials, let’s just say that loudly. It so encapsulates us 90s angsty, Doc Marten wearing, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots listening teenagers in one film. It is just cool and Brandon Lee was fine. The fact that Lee actually passed away during the filming of this made the movie even more beloved.
So, when talks started roughly 15 years ago they were trying to remake it, most of us were like yeah no. It stalled in development repeatedly over the years with various actors dropping in and out and finally they cast Skarsgård. He stuck around to get this sucker made and in the can.
The trailer looks pretty good, I’m still not completely sold, they’ve changed the backstory and updated Eric’s look – which I like. Thank you to Skarsgård’s chef and trainer because body is bodying. He is a great actor, so I don’t think his performance will be anything but good. I only know FKA from her music, so I can’t judge her acting, but we’ll see I suppose. It was always going to be heavy lifting for whomever they cast.
The film is written by Zach Baylin and William Schneider, and directed by Rupert Sanders.
The Crow flies in to (couldn’t help myself) theaters June 7th.
