I’ve been so caught up in the election, I have been a little lax in posting about things in our industry that are truly intriguing and for that I apologize. The trailer for the Steven Soderbergh directed Presence was released yesterday.
A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone.
The film stars: Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Julia Fox, Eddy Maday, Callina Liang and West Mulholland. It was written by David Koepp.
Koepp directed a couple of my favorite horror movies, Stir of Echoes and Secret Window. Both were equal parts horror, thriller and mystery so I am speculating Presence will follow this sort of narrative.
Spoiler alert: the film is told from the point of view of the presence – this reverses the ghost story narrative. Brilliant. Let me take the time to admit, I don’t always enjoy elevated horror although there have been exceptions but not many – seriously yawn. But if this film does what the description says it could be amazing, but if it turns out like Koepp’s last elevated horror film You Should Have Left we might have a problem.
Presence is scheduled to be released in select theaters on January 17, 2025, before expanding wide release on January 24, 2025.
